THE MARITIME ADVISORY PROGRAMME (CPMAP)

With funding support from the U.S. Embassy in Colombo, the Colombo Plan launched the Maritime Advisory Programme with the Port of Colombo as a pilot project in partnership with the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA). 

This project aims to enhance SLPA’s human resource capabilities through professional training in alignment with global standards and best practices.
This three-year project includes several key activities, including port transportation logistics exchange studies, capacity training conference, and the facilitation of international maritime expert advisory visits to SLPA. These activities are designed to bolster maritime connectivity, promote economic growth, and enhance security within the region.

Launch Of The Port Of Colombo Capacity Building Project

The Port of Colombo Capacity Building Project launch was held in Colombo, Sri Lanka with the occasion graced by Chief Guest, Honorable Minister of Ports Shipping and Aviation of Sri Lanka, Mr. Nimal Siripala De Silva and Guest of Honor, H.E. Julie Chung, Ambassador of United States of America to Sri Lanka. It was well attended by Ambassadors, High Commissioners, and Diplomats of The Colombo Plan Member Countries.

The Public Private Partnership Workshop With The Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP)

A collaboration between The Colombo Plan and the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) of the United States Department of Commerce, the Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) Workshop was facilitated by Rebel Group (The Netherlands) Senior Port Consultant Wim Welvaarts. Rohan Masakorala, Lead Consultant for The Colombo Plan Port of Colombo Capacity Building Project, played a pivotal role in the workshop which was coordinated by Lindsey Scannell, Senior Counsel at CLDP, and Maxwell Gruber, Senior International Program Specialist. Romesh David, CEO of SAGT, contributed as a guest speaker.

THE EMPOWERING COMMUNICATIONS FOR MARITIME CONNECTIVITY

The first workshop of The Colombo Plan Port of Colombo Capacity Building Project focused on "Empowering Communications for Maritime Connectivity,". The occasion was graced by the Secretary General of The Colombo Plan, Dr. Benjamin P. Reyes, Mr. Dustin Bassistant, Regional Indo-Pacific Strategy Coordinator, Mr. John Wise - the Deputy Director for Security Assistance and Chairman of SLPA Mr. Kieth Bernard.
According to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the communications workshop is of pivotal importance to SLPA as they engage with international and local experts. Ensuring clarity and precision within the team is crucial to enhance knowledge sharing and prevent redundancy. It is imperative to deliver clear messages and foster understanding among relevant parties.

The First Batch Of SLPA Participants’ Exchange Tour To USA – Virginia Port Visit

The Sri Lanka Ports Authority signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoU) with the Virginia Port Authority on information and knowledge exchange for mutual growth and enhanced connectivity.
Delegates from the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) participated in a Port study visit to the Port of Virginia Norfolk, Virginia. The Port is branded a “Smart Port” with its automated and highly efficient port management systems.
