The Colombo Plan Asia-Pacific Youth Forum 2025 – Officially Opened!

The Asia-Pacific Youth Forum 2025 has officially commenced in Chiang Rai, Thailand! Watch the welcoming video wrapped in glimpses of the region’s rich cultural diversity and unique charm.
We are honored to welcome youth leaders and officials working on youth programmes representing various countries across the Asia-Pacific region. Over the coming days, they will share experiences and insights in volunteerism, leadership, community engagement, and especially drug prevention.

The Colombo Plan Asia-Pacific Youth Forum 2025 – Day 1

We are thrilled to announce the official opening of the Colombo Plan Asia-Pacific Youth Forum 2025! 

The ceremony began with inspiring opening remarks by Ms. Areepak Ngernbamroong, Deputy Secretary-General of the Narcotics Control Board (NCB), followed by the remarks from Ms. Chidchanok Malayawong, Director of the Development Promotion and Coordination Division of TICA and address by Ms. Oranooch Sungkhawanna, Director of the Colombo Plan Drug Advisory Programme (CPDAP) Director. 

The program continued with a presentation from Ms. Oranooch Sungkhawanna, CPDAP Director, sharing key insights on DAP’s ongoing regional initiatives in drug prevention and youth engagement. The second presentation was made by Ms. Chidchanok Malayawong, showcasing the impactful work of TICA. This year, we proudly welcome 35 passionate youth leaders from 18 Colombo Plan member countries who have gathered to collaborate, learn, and lead change across the region. 

Exploring the History of Opium – APYF 2025 Experience Cultural

Following the official opening of the Asia-Pacific Youth Forum 2025, our youth delegates visited the renowned Opium Hall, established under the gracious patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Srinagarindra, the Princess Mother of the King Rama IV of Thailand. 

This immersive experience offered participants a powerful journey through the history of opium — tracing its origins, global trade routes, and the lasting impact it has had on societies around the world. The exhibit also highlighted the opium wars that significantly influenced international relations. 

The participants took part in a self-guided educational tour and engaging group activities, enriching their understanding of the challenges surrounding drug issues, both past and present.

A Warm Thai Welcome – APYF 2025 Welcome Dinner Welcome Dinner

The Welcome Dinner for the Colombo Plan Asia-Pacific Youth Forum 2025, graciously hosted by the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), was a night to remember! 

The evening began with heartfelt opening remarks by Mrs. Jeeraphan Kanjanapradit, Director of the Human Resource Development Institute on Drug Control. Guests were then treated to a delicious spread of authentic Northern Thai(Lanna) cuisine, offering a true taste of Thailand’s rich culinary heritage.  

Traditional Thai cultural performances, including graceful classical dances, brought color and rhythm to the night. Adding to the joyous atmosphere, our participants joined in the fun—singing, dancing, and sharing laughter, creating unforgettable memories and deepening the spirit of friendship. 

Day 2 of APYF 2025: Building Knowledge, Inspiring Action!

The second day of the Asia-Pacific Youth Forum 2025 focused on deepening participants’ understanding of the science behind prevention, treatment, and recovery in the context of drug demand reduction (DDR). 

Youth leaders and young preventive education professionals were actively engaged in thought-provoking sessions that highlighted their vital role in mobilizing peers and fostering change within their communities through their positive attitudes and messages. Their passion and participation underscored a shared commitment to building a healthier, drug-free future. 

Day 4 of APYF 2025: Day 4 Highlights Field Visit Field Visit

Today’s field visit took participants to the inspiring Doi Tung Development Project in Chiang Rai — a model of sustainable development initiated in 1988 under the vision of Her Royal Highness Princess Srinagarindra, the Princess Grandmother of the King of Thailand.
The visit began with an insightful and inspired presentation on the project’s mission to eradicate poverty, eliminate opium cultivation, at the same time, restore the environment through holistic, community-centered development utilizing 3S Model Approaches. From survival stage of having basic infrastructure and citizenship by providing access to education and healthcare to sufficient stage of having income earned from vocational training and sustainable livelihoods, the Doi Tung model remains a powerful example of long-term transformation.
Participants also explored the Doi Tung Royal Villa, the former residence of the Princess Grandmother, gaining a deeper appreciation of her legacy and hands-on approach to all development projects worldwide.
The day continued with a cultural journey to the stunning White Temple (Wat Rong Khun), a masterpiece of modern Thai architecture, and wrapped up with a lively experience at the Chiang Rai Night Market, filled with local flavors and crafts.
