FORENSIC SCIENCE INITIATIVE Sharing the Science: The Changes to Forensic Science Presented by Novel Psychoactive Substances

The Colombo Plan Drug Advisory Programme (CPDAP), in collaboration with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) of the U.S. Department of Justice, is currently co-hosting a three-day forensic science training workshop in Athens, Greece, from September 24 to 26, 2024. This workshop, led by experts from the DEA, aims to address the growing challenges faced by forensic chemists due to the rise of synthetic drugs and new psychoactive substances over the past decade. The training will provide in-depth insights into the evolving landscape of drug analysis, equipping participants with the latest tools and methodologies to combat these emerging threats.

A diverse group of 22 delegates from over fifteen countries have been invited to participate in this international event, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange among forensic professionals across borders. This workshop represents a significant step in strengthening global efforts to tackle the complexities of modern drug enforcement and forensic science.
