Colombo Plan Delegation Engages in the 68th Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND68) in Vienna

The Colombo Plan Delegates led by Dr. Benjamin P. Reyes, the Secretary-General of the Colombo Plan, Ms. Oranooch Sungkhawanna, the Director of the Colombo Plan Drug Advisory Programme, and Mr. Thom Brown, the CEO of the Colombo Plan participate in the 68th Session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs(CND68), which will take place at the Vienna International Centre until March 14, 2025.

On Monday, 10 March 2025 at 13.00 hrs(local time in Vienna) Dr. Benjamin P.Reyes, CP Secretary General, Mr. Thomas Browne, CEO of the Colombo Plan and Ms. Oranooch Sungkhawanna, CPDAP Director observed the side event titled ” Addressing the Methamphetamine Crisis in the Mekong and beyond” organized by Thailand supported by Australia, China and India to listen to the update of subregional cooperation in the Mekong region and drug situation and current implementing measures to counteract the emerging problems. In addition, the group also observed the side event at 15.00 hrs.(local time in Vienna) titiled ” Addressing Emerging Non-scheduled synthetic drugs and Non-Medical Use of Pharmaceuticals : A Global Response organized by China and supported by WHO at the conference rooms of the VIC, Vienna.

During the meeting of CND68 on Day2, 11 March 2025, representative from the Republic of Tanzania shared an intervention statement. In her statement, she expressed her appreciation to the assistance received from the Colombo Plan Drug Advisory Programme through the Universal Prevention and Treatment Curriculum Trainings for DDR professionals in Tanzania.

Dr. Benjamin P. Reyes, CP Secretary General, Addresses the 68th Session of CND

On Tuesday, 11 March 2025, Dr.Benjamin P.Reyes, the CP Secretary General delivered the intervention statement during the 68th Session of the Commission on Narcotics Drugs at the Vienna International Centre, Vienna. In his statement, he highlighted the successful implementation of the Colombo Plan Drug Advisory Programme on Drug Demand Reduction and Drug Supply Reduction throughout the year 2024.

On Tuesday, 11 March 2025 at 7pm(local Vienna time), all members of the Colombo Plan Delegation led by Dr. Benjamin P. Reyes, CP Secretary General was invited by Ambassador Ruediger Bohn, the Permanent Representative of the Federal Republic of Germany to the International Organizations in Vienna for a dinner in honor of Federal Drug Commissioner Mr. Burkhard Blienert on the occasion of the 68th Session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs at the German Ambassador Residence in Vienna.

On Wednesday, 12 March 2025 at 1pm-2pm (local time in Vienna), the Colombo Plan took part in the side event entitled “Humanitarian Approach To Address Synthetic Drugs Threats”. Mr. Thom Browne, CEO of the Colombo Plan, shared his presentation on the findings of synthetic drugs and its harmful impact on human health.

On Thursday, 13 March 2025 at 13.00 hrs(local time in Vienna) Dr. Benjamin P.Reyes, CP Secretary General, Mr. Thomas Browne, CEO of the Colombo Plan and Ms. Oranooch Sungkhawanna, CPDAP Director observed the side event titled ” Nitazenes : A Threat beyond borders – , A Risk posted by Emerging Synthetic Opioids to public health and security” organized by the Republic of Israel supported by the United Kingdom to listen to the situation and countermeasures of the Nitazenes in Israel, United Kingdom and project of INCB for Nitazenes interventions at the conference rooms M7 of the VIC, Vienna.

On Friday, 14 March 2025 at 10am (local time in Vienna), the Colombo Plan delegation led by Dr. Benjamin P.Reyes, CP Secretary General and Ms. Oranooch Sungkhawanna, CPDAP Director had a chance to have a side meeting with the delegation from Japan to enhance mutual cooperation, explore possible future cooperation in the Asia Pacific region as well as a plan for a courtesy visits of CPSG to the Japanese high level officials in June or July.
