Weekly Round-Up: Recent Engagements of H.E. Dr. Benjamin Reyes, the Secretary-General of The Colombo Plan (02nd - 06th December 2024)

Dr Hamad Al Ghafri, the President of the International Society of Addiction Medicine (ISAM) paid H.E. Dr Reyes a courtesy visit at the Secretariat in Colombo. Discussions were centred around potential collaborations with the Middle East region.

𝟮nd December

The Secretary-General participated in the inaugural Donor’s Forum, focusing on The Colombo Plan's projects and priorities. The forum brought together representatives from diplomatic missions, partner organisations, and international development entities to explore the role of technology in advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

H.E. Dr Reyes attended a reception in commemoration of the 53rd Union Day of the United Arab Emirates, hosted by H.E. Khaled Nasser AlAmeri, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates in Sri Lanka. The Colombo Plan extended its best wishes to the people of the UAE on this occasion.

𝟮nd December

The Secretary-General attended the 2nd International Symposium on Drug-Related Studies 2024, organised by the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board (NDDCB) of Sri Lanka in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and The Colombo Plan. The event was graced by Mr D.W.R.B. Seneviratne, Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security, and facilitated by Dr Indika Wanninayake, Chairman of the NDDCB. Other distinguished attendees included Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, Commander of the Navy and Chairman of the Presidential Task Force to Combat the Use of Poisonous and Dangerous Drugs and Mr Tetsuya Yamada, Chief Representative of the Sri Lanka Office at Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

3rd December

H.E. Dr Reyes attended the National Day celebrations of the Kingdom of Thailand, hosted by H.E. Mr Paitoon Mahapannaporn, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Sri Lanka. The Colombo Plan extended its best wishes to the people of Thailand on this significant occasion.

3rd December

The Secretary-General paid a courtesy visit to H.E. Mr Chutintorn Gongsakdi, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand and his team, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Thailand. The discussions focused on the implementation of relevant programmes in Thailand and addressed concerns regarding the operations of The Colombo Plan’s Office in Thailand.

6th December

H.E. Dr Reyes paid a courtesy visit to Hon. Mr Phongthep Thepkanjana, Adviser to the Prime Minister at the Official Residence of the Prime Minister of Thailand. During the meeting, The Colombo Plan expressed gratitude for Thailand's ongoing support of its initiatives, and the planned establishment of an office in Thailand.
