Weekly Round-Up: Recent Engagements of H.E. Dr. Benjamin Reyes, the Secretary-General of The Colombo Plan (25th - 29th November 2024)

H.E. Dr Reyes attended Day 1 of the "Navigating Cyber Threats" workshop at the Courtyard by Marriot in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The event was organised by The Colombo Plan Maritime Advisory Programme and funded by the U.S. Embassy, Colombo. The occasion was graced by Admiral (ret) Sirimevan Ranasinghe, the newly appointed Chairman of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA), his executive team and 25 IT Engineers and specialists from the SLPA.

H.E. Ambassador Diar Nurbintoro, Director of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Center for South-South Technical Cooperation, along with colleagues from the Indonesian Embassy in Sri Lanka, paid a courtesy visit to H.E. Dr Reyes at The Colombo Plan Secretariat. The discussions focused on technical cooperation initiatives with various member countries.

The Secretary-General attended Day 1 of the 7th edition of the Colombo International Maritime and Logistics Conference 2024. The event convened experts from the maritime sector, including diplomatic representatives, and provided a platform for the exchange of insights from global port managers and the academics.

H.E. Dr Reyes attended the reception hosted by H.E. Isomata Akio, the newly appointed Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka. We extend a warm welcome to H.E. Ambassador Isomata Akio.

28 November

The Secretary-General participated in the awarding ceremony and exhibition of the All-Island Art and Animation Video Competition organised by the Sri Lanka Navy in collaboration with the President Task Force to Combat the Use of Poisonous and Dangerous Drugs. Hon. Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, graced the occasion and delivered the keynote address. The Colombo Plan Drug Advisory Programme partnered with the President Task Force to sponsor this competition.

29 November

H.E. Kittipan Kanjanapipatkul, former Secretary-General of The Colombo Plan and currently the International Affairs Advisor at the Chulabhorn Graduate Institute of Thailand, paid a courtesy visit to the Secretariat in Colombo, Sri Lanka. During the visit, discussions focused on reviving The Colombo Plan Master's Degree Scholarship Programme, which will be fully funded through the generous support of the Government of Thailand. The former Secretary-General also met with four remaining staff members from his tenure and briefly toured the newly established office.
