Pilot trainings of the Recovery Allies Curriculum under were conducted from October to December under two batches. The trainings were held via Zoom platform with expertise from Dr. Hendree Jones from the University of North Carolina (UNC) and Ms. Nancy Dudley as resource persons.
The first Batch was trained from 26 October to 06 November with 30 participants from Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Brunei, Singapore, Sri Lanka, India, Maldives, Pakistan, Australia and Tanzania. The second batch of 33 participants from the African Region was trained from 02 to 11 December 2020.
The Recovery Allies course is created for those with interest in working as a recovery support professional and do not identify as being in recovery from a SUD. This course orients participants through a brief foundation that defines SUDs and recovery, and then provides the needed information about competencies and skills, including awareness of trauma-informed care, self-care, and boundary setting, to work successfully as a recovery support professional.
The trainings included interactive group assignments, large group discussions and Q&A sessions. The participants showed much enthusiasm throughout the trainings and comprehend well to the required home based assignments as well.
