BOTSWANA: TOT ON UPC -1 CORE COURSE IN BOTSWANA

The Colombo Plan, in collaboration with Ministry of Health and Wellness, Botswana conducted a Training of Trainers on the Universal Prevention Curriculum for Substance Use, Practitioners Series, CORE Course on 24-30 April 2019. The six-day training marked a new beginning in the area of substance use prevention in Botswana as it was the first comprehensive and evidence-based prevention training for the country. It was held at the Masa Square Hotel in Gaborone.

The overall goal of the training was to provide knowledge and skills needed by the prevention workforce in Botswana to implement evidence-based prevention interventions and policies. The training consisted of 10 modules outlining the key foundations of evidence-based prevention and the training was delivered as stipulated in the Introduction to the Universal Prevention Curriculum Series for Implementers Trainer Manual, Adapted Edition – 2019.

27 participants attended the training and they were made aware that the training was an introduction to the Universal Prevention Curriculum Series for practitioners and that they would be required to select subsequent specialty tracks that address their specific primary settings.
