Since 2020, the Indonesian government through the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), the Ministry of Labor (Kemenaker) and the Ministry of State Apparatus Empowerment (Kemenpan) has officially recognized Addiction Counselors as one of the legal professions in Indonesia. This is a follow-up to the ICAP credential in Indonesia which was initiated by DAP reciprocally with BNN.
Based on the results of previous pilot implementation tests in several provinces in Indonesia, it was found that many participants needed to improve their skills in conducting screening and assessment. For this reason, BNN held 2 cycles of Training of Trainers (ToT) on the UTC 5 course to increase the number of National trainers with the aim of being able to more echo this course in more areas in Indonesia, include to remote areas that are difficult to reach. This will greatly assist the dissemination of the curriculum, especially during the current pandemic situation, which can minimize long-distance travel between islands or provinces.
The participants came from representatives of the BNN in all Provinces in Indonesia, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Social Affairs and Correctional Institutions which implemented the SUD treatment program. The training was facilitated by DAP Global trainers in Indonesia and was conducted face-to-face during the period of easing regional quarantine and with the application of strict health protocols.
