The Colombo Plan Drug Advisory Programme (CPDAP) successfully concluded hybrid Training of Trainers (ToT) programmes for participants from the African continent, conducted from 4 to 9 November 2024, in Nairobi Kenya.
The regional ToT focused on four curricula:
• Women’s Intervention for Substance Exposure: Comprehensive Care for Substance Use Disorder (WISE);
• Practitioners Specialty Track 1: Family-Based Prevention (UPC-P Family);
• Practitioners Specialty Track 4: Environment-Based Prevention (UPC-P Environment); and
• Treating Adolescents with Substance Use Disorders
These trainings consisted of both virtual and in-person components. The virtual training sessions were conducted twice a week 2.5 hours per day from 7th to 31st October 2024, followed by in-person training in Nairobi, Kenya from 4 to 9 November. Over 80 participants from Botswana, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Seychelles, Tanzania, Togo, and Tunisia are attending the in-person training.
This regional Training of Trainers (ToT) marked the inaugural launch of the Treating Adolescents with Substance Use Disorders curriculum in Africa.
Participant airfare costs were covered either by their respective governments or by the participants themselves. The Colombo Plan Drug Advisory Programme (CPDAP), with funding support from the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) of the U.S. Department of State, covered the participants’ accommodation and training expenses.
Following the training, participants are expected to apply and share their acquired knowledge using available local resources within their countries.
