DAP International Journal

International Journal of Prevention and Treatment of Substance Use Disorders

Despite the availability of international research journals on substance abuse, there is a distinct gap between what is being reported by the research experts and the transfer of this into practice. Research processes and outcomes are not always readily transferred to the day to day working context of the practitioner. Similarly, reports of quality practice, with relevance for researchers and practitioners are uncommon.

It is intended to meet these gaps through a new journal available and accessible to both scientific community and drug demand reduction practitioners such as drug treatment counselors, recovering persons, treatment coordinators etc.

This journal will provide a forum for the Colombo Plan to advance the scientific literature by engaging a broad global network of scholars and researchers in the field who could advance the understanding of drug treatment and prevention technologies, and their application throughout the world.

In order to implement the above agenda in work, the Colombo Plan DAP has formed 3 solid structures namely an advisory board, editorial board and a management board drawing the experts from many parts of the world. These boards are to play distinctive roles in guiding the journal in ensuring international standards in publication to secure the highest academic visibility.

About the Journal

International Journal of Prevention and Treatment of Substance Use Disorders (IJPTSUD) is an open access, peer-reviewed and refereed international journal. The Colombo Plan Drug Advisory Programme is devoted to publish original work in drug demand and reduction, through a transparent and rigorous peer review process. It offers authors high visibility for their papers through its various networks, and member governments, access to a broad readership including an Arabic edition and high standards of copy editing and production. The journal aims to maintain a rapid editorial procedure and a strict peer-review system. Manuscripts which are not published elsewhere will be considered for publication.

The aims and scope of the journal

IJPTSUD publishes original research articles and papers in the fields of drug addiction with special emphasis on issues related to developing economies. The aim is to provide a forum for discussion on evidence based interventions for drug related problems relevant to the context and to contribute to capacity building and evidence based practice in response to substance use disorders, particularly in developing countries. A key intention is to promote the dissemination of existing evidence and develop capacity to implement locally relevant evidence based practice. The journal will prioritize issues pertaining to illicit drugs, as opposed to any focus on alcohol or tobacco use in isolation. Papers on research based approaches to prevention, treatment and good practices will be encouraged.

IJPTSUD will be a biannual publication. Each volume is comprised of two issues, released in January and July of every year.
